ST. LOUIS, MO – PierianDx announced today that it has exclusively licensed from Washington University in St. Louis a proprietary genetic testing tool and processes. The privately held start-up will now offer those same products to other clinical labs giving them an end-to-end solution for managing clinical next-generation sequencing processes.

In use at Washington University since 2011, the genetic testing tool, called the Clinical Genomicist Workstation, enables clinical labs to speed up the delivery and improve the accuracy of patient-specific diagnosis and treatments based on an individual’s DNA.

PierianDx’s offering includes the Clinical Genomicist Workstation’s software, IT backbone, integrated process and access to a bioinformatics database, along with consulting to enable next-generation sequencing in clinical labs. Washington University will continue to have access to the technology for use within its clinical practice and research initiatives.

“We built and rely on the Clinical Genomicist Workstation because it allows us to identify genetic changes in tissue specimens and to evaluate their significance,” said Dr. John Pfeifer, one of PierianDx’s founders and Vice Chairman for Clinical Affairs, Department of Pathology & Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine.

Unlike other genetic testing tool start-ups, PierianDx:

  1. offers a tool and process that’s been in clinical use at a leading academic hospital for several years
  2. provides an integrated solution to next-generation sequencing, enabling a more rapid diagnosis and individualized treatments
  3. shares data, allowing its knowledgebase to grow, ultimately improving the quality of clinical interpretations with every patient case.

“We are offering a ‘soup-to-nuts’ process for diagnostic genetic testing,” said Ted Briscoe, Chief Executive Officer of PierianDx. “Our core business is providing key bioinformatics software, cloud storage and a seamless process. We can also help labs with assay validation consulting, sequencing services, and support signing out reports, if needed.”
