ARUP Introduces NGS.Web, a Powerful Next-Generation Sequencing Platform
ARUP Laboratories, a national nonprofit reference laboratory, announced today the implementation of NGS.Web, a powerful next-generation sequencing (NGS) platform. This innovative platform will enhance sample tracking, data analysis, and reporting of genetic and oncological sample testing.
NGS.Web contains gene and variant data from unique partnerships and industry-leading databases, including PierianDx and the GeneInsight VariantWire network, and provides an abundance of variant resources in a single integrated application.
The NGS.Web platform has a clinician-driven development cycle aligned with the data-analyzing power of a bioinformatics team, which allows data to be analyzed more efficiently and accurately, resulting in improved patient care.
Since fall 2014, ARUP has been actively utilizing this internally developed solution to convert raw genomic data into genetic variants that can be analyzed for complete and concise interpretation of patient results.
“We are thrilled to have a comprehensive solution that allows us to work from a single platform. Now we have access to our entire process and all relevant information at our fingertips,” stated Dr. Elaine Lyon, medical director of the Genetics Division and co-medical director of Pharmacogenomics at ARUP Laboratories.
To date, ARUP has developed more than 35 NGS tests that will be brought sequentially into the NGS.Web platform. Tests currently utilizing NGS.Web include T-cell clonality, solid tumor mutation panel, myeloid malignancies mutation panel, lung panel, and aortopathy. The exome sequencing symptom-guided analysis and mitochondrial disorders tests are expected to be brought into the platform in the near future.
“By combining the efforts of top-notch bioinformaticians, innovative scientists, and expert software developers, ARUP has been able to create a truly revolutionary platform for genetic data analysis. NGS.Web is the result of years of hard work by multiple teams, and it enables nearly every aspect of the NGS-processing pipeline, from wet lab to reporting. The best part is that this is only the beginning. We are adding new features and tests all the time,” stated Dr. Brendan O Fallon, bioinformatics manager at ARUP Laboratories.
